Modern-Day Sam Adamses come from across the country. They come from many different backgrounds, but all have one thing in common: They saw government abuse of the people's rights and stood up to take action.

Check out these stories of community leaders who did just that, and join us today in our fight for accountable, transparent government.

Dennis Polhill- Colorado: Led to restore accountability to the Foothills Fire Protection District Board.

Todd Rowden- Illinois : Stood for Palatine, IL citizens in court against no-bid school contracts of nearly $10 million.

Kirk Denz- Illinois: Began a group called the Riparian Owners of Illinois to protect lakeside property owners' rights. 

Steve Sherman- California: Led NoGRAB to prevent the city of Gardena from creating unaccountable redevelopment agency.

Sheila Weinberg- Illinois: Founded the Institute for Truth in Accounting to get the word out about the dire state of affairs with government finances and the importance of straightforward government accounting.

Bill Brody- New York: Successfully fought New York's ludicrous eminent domain policy that ignored Constitutionally-required due process, which helped lead state legislators to amend the law. 

Frosty Landon- Virginia: Led the effort to bring citizen access to government in Virginia. 

Staci Craig- Missouri: Blogged to keep Kansas City bureaucrats accountable to the public.

Leon Drolet - Michigan: Continues to lead an anti-tax movement in Michigan.

Jamie Blaine- Pennsylvania: Started a website advocating for reform of his state's open records law. 

Brad Jones- Colorado: Began an effort to document the behind-the-scenes unaccountability of state officials.

Harold Hamilton- Minnesota: Formed the Anoka County Watchdog website to keep an eye on his region's unaccountable government. 

Dan Gaby- New Jersey: Works with community leaders to bring educational freedom to all of the children in New Jersey. 

Chris Kliesmet and Orville Seymer- Wisconsin: Founded the Citizens for Responsible Government (CRG) Network to make a difference in local politics in Wisconsin.

Jim Roos- Missouri: Fought back against unjust government takings of private property.

Peyton Wolcott- Texas: Placed a spotlight on her local school district to become one of the leading voices for government accountability and transparency in Texas.

Susan Kniep- Connecticut: Leads the Federation of Connecticut Taxpayer Organizations to defend the state's taxpayers and property owners.
