Stay Awake for the Brownouts

Years ago, I would actually listen to lectures by economists on how the electric grid might function better. Pretty much only one thing remains in my head, the conclusion: Regulatory agencies and government-run electrical companies tend to be very inefficient when it comes to capitalizing their enterprises.Have you nodded off, yet?Sorry. There’s always been something a bit boring about these discussions. But the subject matter is really worth staying awake for. Why? [Read More]

“The people of King County, Washington have made it clear that they expect accountable leadership in their electoral system,” said John Tsarpalas.

CHICAGO, IL--Voters in King County, Washington yesterday passed Initiative 25, an amendment to the County Charter that will provide for an elected Elections Director to head the county’s elections processes. Led by the group Citizens for Accountable Elections and supported by Democrats, Republicans, Libertarians, Greens and Independents, I-25 brings Washington’s largest county into step with the accountable electoral processes of all other counties in the state.

“The Sam Adams Alliance is proud of the citizen-leaders who led the fight for I-25,” said John Tsarpalas, president of the Sam Adams Alliance. “King County voters deserve a solid process through which they can cast their votes and have them counted. The Sam Adams Alliance is proud to have been a small part of this effort for government accountability.”

I-25 will require the formation of a new King County Elections Department to be headed by an elected, non-partisan Elections Director. It changes the law to reflect the recommendations of the two independent commissions that studied the failures of the 2004 election. I-25 must now be approved for a second time next November, due to a decision by the County Commission.

The Sam Adams Alliance aims to revive the principles of our namesake by connecting and supporting citizen leaders who are working to defend liberty, hold the government accountable, and protect the rights of taxpayers starting at the state and local level.
