Today, Sam Adams Alliance Senior Advisor Paul Jacob and the rest of the "Oklahoma 3" will plead not-guilty--again--on charges that they conspired to break a state law during a 2005 petition drive. OK Attorney General Drew Edmondson plans to use this case to make an example of those who would seek to change their government by the citizen petitioning process.

Paul Jacob made a statement today regarding the ongoing assault against the First Amendment:

"What is my actual offense but that of daring to help Oklahoma voters hold an election to decide an issue?" Jacob and his colleagues helped organize a petition drive to collect 300,000 signatures to place a 2005 initiative - Taxpayer Bill of Rights - on the state ballot. During the petition drive, state officials told organizers people could move to Oklahoma, immediately declare residency, and qualify to begin circulating the petition.
